Kisan Credit Card in Uttarakhand: Limits, 4% Effective Interest and How to Apply
How the Kisan Credit Card works for farmers and orchard owners in Uttarakhand, including the interest subvention that brings the effective rate down to about 4%.
The Kisan Credit Card (KCC) is the most affordable source of farm credit for farmers in Uttarakhand. From paddy and wheat growers in Udham Singh Nagar to apple and vegetable farmers in Uttarkashi, Nainital and Almora, a Kisan Credit Card in Uttarakhand gives a revolving credit limit for crop and allied needs at a subsidised rate.
What is a Kisan Credit Card?
A KCC is a credit limit, not a one-time loan. The bank sets a limit based on your land, crops and scale of finance, and you draw and repay as needed through the season. It covers:
- Cultivation costs: seeds, fertiliser, pesticide, labour
- Post-harvest expenses and marketing
- Working capital for allied activities: dairy, poultry, fisheries, beekeeping
- A share for household consumption and maintenance of farm assets
Interest rate and subvention
Under the Government of India's Modified Interest Subvention Scheme (MISS):
- Short-term crop loans are given at 7% a year
- Farmers who repay on time get a 3% prompt repayment incentive
- That brings the effective rate to about 4%
The subsidised rate applies to crop loans up to ₹3 lakh, and allied activities have their own sub-limit. The Union Budget 2025-26 announced raising the limit under the scheme to ₹5 lakh; ask your bank whether the higher limit applies to your account. The scheme was extended for 2025-26 by the Union Cabinet in May 2025.
Above these limits, the bank's normal agriculture lending rate applies.
Who can apply
- Individual farmers who own or cultivate land
- Tenant farmers, oral lessees and sharecroppers, subject to the bank's rules
- Joint liability groups and self-help groups of farmers
- Livestock farmers and fish farmers for allied KCC
Documents usually needed
- Aadhaar and PAN (or another photo ID)
- Land records: khatauni or other revenue record showing ownership or cultivation
- Details of crops grown and area under each crop
- Passport-size photographs
- For allied activities: details of livestock, ponds or units
In the hills, land records are often jointly held by families. Getting your share recorded in the khatauni makes the KCC application much easier.
How to apply
- Visit your bank branch, cooperative bank or regional rural bank, or apply online where available.
- Submit the application form with land records and KYC.
- The bank fixes your limit based on land holding, crops and the district's scale of finance.
- Receive the card and draw money as needed through the season.
- Repay on time each year to keep the 4% effective rate and renew the limit.
Beyond KCC: other farm loans
For tractors, power tillers, polyhouses, cold storage, orchards and dairy units, a term loan is usually the right product. These are covered on our agriculture loan page. Farmers starting a non-farm side business such as processing or a shop can look at a Mudra loan.
Tips
- Repay before the due date every year. Missing it means losing the 3% incentive.
- Keep land records updated, especially after a family partition.
- Link crop insurance where available; it protects both you and your credit record.
